The Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk announced the winners of its annual awards trip this week.
Its readers voted Cape Town the outside second favorite, by five places last year.
The Chief Executive of Tourism Cape Town, Mariette Du Toit-Helmbold said excited to see the new and, as a sign that Cape Town is now widely acknowledged and celebrated as one of the favorite destinations of the world.
"In view of the World Cup 2010 and the world's eyes upon us, we work hard to maximize exposure for Cape Town on our major source markets and between emerging markets," said Du Toit-Helmbold.
She added: "We hope to establish a lasting legacy for our city, capturing the hearts and imagination of potential visitors through public relations and media platforms. The World Cup is our chance to build the brand in Cape Town and set the Mother City as the largest city in Africa and one of the ten best cities in the world to visit, live, work and study.
In the category of the Guardian considered for the awards, South Africa Bulungula Lodge on the Wild Coast was second ethics Travel Awards.
The Lodge operates on solar power and was one of the first results in the world to be certified fair trade.
According to the Guardian, many travel companies not only survived but also flourished this year, despite the enormous challenges because of the recession. Research shows that vacations are still considered a priority for many in the United Kingdom.
19 248 readers of newspapers have voted at its Annual Award Travel, 000 votes against 17 last year.
In 2008, Cape Town, was named "Best City in the World" by readers of British newspaper The Daily Telegraph in his Telegraph Travel Awards.
